Officers from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to the Hawthorne PEARLS School on April 16, to investigate a report of a student who made threats against the school.
According to police, the investigation into the threats determined that a 13-year-old male student at the school had allegedly posted “disturbing and violent images to social media, placing other students in fear of a school shooting incident.”
Yonkers Police Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said that investigators from the Yonkers Police Youth Services Division and Intelligence Unit, worked with the Westchester County Attorney for the Family Court to establish reasonable cause to believe that the student’s alleged actions were criminal, and affected his arrest Wednesday morning.
The teenager was charged with one felony count of making a terroristic threat. He has been remanded to a local youth detention facility and is scheduled to be processed in the Family Court system.
“The safety of our students and children is the top priority for the Yonkers Police Department, and working together with our partners in the Yonkers Public Schools,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner stated. “We are committed to investigating every complaint to the fullest extent and engage in zero tolerance when threats are established. Remember – if you see something, say something.”
